Alright here's the deal. Coupla weeks ago we had a big ass rain storm and finally had some mud to play in. so i went muddin twice and i think the second time i sucked a little water into the intake cuz it started running like a plug had fouled out but then it corrected itself after the water burned out. but i'm thinkin i may have gotten a little more water in there somewhere because past 3 or 4 days my engine hasn't wanted to turn over until i hit it 3-4 times. the starter engages and i have full battery power but its like it just won't turn after it sits for a while. this morning was the worst i had to bump the starter about 10 times before it turned over. Is this an early sign of Hydrolock? if so what the hell do i need to do to save my yota?

take the plugs out and put some 3 in 1 oil in the cyliners and let it sit sounds like its rusting and try changing the plugs if it hydrolocked it would have locked the engine totaly and probley bent a rod or two or atleast a valve or two. Its happened to me on a honda when they hydrolock they totaly lock up and dont turn over at all

i tablespoon full of marvel mystery oil in each spark plug whole. let it sit over night and then crank it over. i have unfroze v-8 motors like that. they have been frozen solid for years and one i had to put a 6 foot breaker bar and pull with a buddy of mine. yes the car ran afterwards also. not all that great cause the compression was junk but it ran.

you also might want to check your front and rear diffs for water. if you havent extended your breathers on them THERE IS water in them. change the fluid in them and then extend the breathers with some rubber hose and some small filters on the ends.

might want to check your transfer case also!

your starter is probably full of mud.

hydrolock is just that. Lock. it either mechanically locks, where the water in the cylinder cant be compressed and bends a rod or two, or it locks with fluid, where the engine locks just shy of the top of the stroke because the rods WONT bend. Pulling the spark plugs and cranking the engine fixes the second kind.


I remember I hydrolocked a BMW engine so tight that if you tried pushing it with another car it would just drag the back wheels. haha. That was a fun way to spend 400 bucks on a used engine.

i dont think its hydrolock it sounds like you got some water in your starter, the toyota in my profile has 44 's on it we had it floating across a lake and the next day it did the same thing, just replace the starter, if youve had it runnin afterwards its not hydolock because once the water is burned out of the cylinders its gone, unless its in your oil then it wouldnt cause any problems running wise it will cause other probs. i would check the oil to see if its milky looking. but as far as the hydrolock, thats caused by water actaully in your cylinders and if youve had it running then thats not it, just a waterlogged starter

axles and trasnfer case are fine, new transfer and extended breathers. hmm starter eh. i didn't think it was the starter because when i turn the key the starter makes its usual click like its engaging so i dunno. maybe i need to take the starter off and check it for water. i really dont' wanna spend the money on a new starter so is there any way to fix it if thats teh problem?

Your starter is proably going out. If it just clicks and doesn't do anything then it is proably your starter. Try tapping it with a hammer to see if it helps start any.

another question is there any way to prevent this from happening again (besides "Don't go muddin")? like is there a shield or something i can put over it to keep the water from splashing it?
