Alright, I have an apartment leased up until June 30, 2006. Right now, my truck has been broken into twice in the area, once at the apartments and once at my job across the street. I want to get out of the area and buy a house and do the whole settling down thing. Does anyone know of a loophole on how to get out of a lease without having to pay those ridiculous fees for breaking the lease? I have heard that if you get a job more than 50 miles away then you can get out. I would appreciate any help yall could offer to me on here.

Do you have a copy of the lease agreement?

Your first step might be to try talking with the landlord or management.

He/she/they might just be willing to let you out of the lease early without penalty under the circumstances.

Worst that could happen is they say no and you start pushing the safety and security issue. They might bear some civil liability for your loss if you can show gross negligence or deliberate indifference. Once they realize that, they might be more motivated to just let you go and cut their losses.....

Depends on the circumstances, though....

most people make you find someone to move in and take over the lease
