I've had to replace a few batteries in my truck. I have a 1999 chevy s10. I'd replace one, and it'd work fine for about a week or two, then every morning when i go to start it, it would have a slightly weaker start than the morning before. Evenutally it will just be dead. My alternator works fine, i'm 100% sure of that. Would a short in some wiring cause it to go dead over a long(week) pierod of time?

you might have a parisitic load. which is something, an accesory maybe might be staying on when it is not suppose to. ???? perform a parisitic load test

How do I do that?

i suppose you would have to check amperage draw with the vehicle off.

Do you think an amp left on(but the faceplate is off so no signal is going to it) would kill it?

Sounds what my moms 03 Tahoe did turned out the bose sound system amp was drawing minimal power every time and it kept killing the battery over a week or so. So check things like that out.

ok man remove the negative cable from the battery (use a regular cheap test light) connect one end of the test light to the negative on the battery and the other end to the disconnected negative battery cable if you have a power draw the test light will light up to do the test simply go through the fuse box pulling them on by one when pull the fuse that makes the test light go out simply replace the other fuses and make sure that it doesnt come back on figure out what the fuse is for that made the light go out and voila you found your problem

make sure you disconnect the under hood lamp

I didn't know I had an underhood lamp.

Thanks for the info on how to troubleshoot it, dragginrkr. I guess that amp that has a remote wire looped(so it will stay on 24/7) isn't a good idea?
