Just wondering if anyone has ever had a rear end narrowed on a Ranger. Its a 94 with the 4 cylinder. I did some phoning around, and the only shop that could give me an answer said that we would have to go to a 6 cyl rear end and get custom axles made. They want $1200 if we supply the 6 cyl rear end. Not something I want to do since all the 4 link tabs are already welded on the 4 cyl rear. And $1200 isnt worth it.

call sutton engineering in city of industry..im not sure where your at. but they narrowed my 05 dodge dually rear end, and did an awesome job. 626-961-9369 talk to ed...

I may be wrong and there are probably other ways to do it, but arent you going to have to re-weld the 4-link tabs once they shorten the axle tubes? I would do some homework and find out the width of a mustang 8.8 rear. then you might gain disk brakes, posi and a plethora of other hop up goodies for future upgrades
just my opinion

shouldnt have to redo the 4 link tabs if they can just shorten the tubes at the brake backing plate. I'm trying to find the cheapest way to do this. Swapping in a rear end is kinda out of the budget.

They shorten the axel tubes at the differential not the brakes

if its a good shop they will shorten the tubes wherever you tell them to. they probably want to swap the rear end because of the axles, you can send those axles to moser engineering, give them 2 days and they will send you a brand new set of axles, whatever length you need. even a diff bolt pattern if you want, then you just find someone to cut the housing down. if you wanted you could send them the whole housing too.

you could get a explorer or mustang rear end, then youll have disc brakes i know you can get custom size axles for that rear around 400 for both, then you just have to worry about cutting the actual rear end and re assemble might be cheaper than 1200 check ebay

hmm there retarded. go somewere else. a 8.8 is prob easier to narrow since there is more stuff for them.

I'm pretty sure the stock axles can not be reused (resplined) because of their c-clip design. I could be mistaken though.

I used an 8.8" from an Explorer, narrowed it 1" on both sides and got a pair of brand new axles from Moser. Worked out great. It's not going to be cheap though. $300ish for the rear end, $200ish for the labor to shorten it, I think the axles shafts were about $400shipped.

mosser will reslpine your axel for $120. and you should be able to find a guy with a jig that drag races in your area to do it for $100-$150. then you just have to take it apart and put it together.
