Im looking to install a billet steering column on my hardbody. It mentioned that the Shaft size is 1 in. DD. would this fit? or do I need to get some type of adapter?

Eddie,

If you want a Billet (or non billet) steering wheel, chances are you'll need an adapter to make it fit. Depending on the brand of steering wheel you would need different adapters.

Our wheels are made to fit onto a Grant Signature Series adapter (5 holes). Grant does offer adapter for almost any make/model of vehicle. For your Hardbody, you would need this adapter: #5560-1 (HB after 85) or a #5592-1 (HB before 86). You can find those adapters for fairly cheap (35-55) at almost any local autoparts stores.

Hope this helps you a bit. Feel free to contact me if you need any help!

You'll need to make a new shaft from the column to the steering box. You will need to find out what size shaft is coming out of the steering box. Get a u-joint to fit it, and one to fit the column, then connect the two. Check out, Borgeson, Ididit, or Flaming River, they all make u-joints and shafts. They should be able to help you get "steered" in the right direction. Definately dont skimp when doing this swap though, its your life in your hands, literally. You dont want your steering coming loose at 70+ mph!!

the best way to do this is go to the wrecking yard and pull some short shafts off some Nissan cars. front wheel drive cars have knuckles in the steering that can also be used. sometimes other makes will have the same size shaft.

if this doesnt work, go to a machine shop that has a lathe and have an adapter made.
