I have a dilemma. My winter beater shit the bed on me and now I gotta drive my S10 for a little while in the winter. The problem is the EDC I have on it(from SD) is the V-belt type that is for the V6. Now when I go and start my truck in the morning the pulley has a really hard time spinning and due to the shitty V-belt setup the Altenator pulley just smokes the belt because the EDC cant keep up. Now I know your saying its something with the Compressor itself but it only happens on really cold cold days. It was fine the day after when it was 30 out. Could it just be the oil in the compressor that needs to be warmed up in order to flow to spin the pulley? If so what the heck can I do so I wont keep burning belts since I cant change the weather. Maybe every morning that its really cold just take the belt off and let the truck and compressor run for a little while then put it back on when it is running at full speed? I have no other solutions beside park it and stay home.

yea sounds like the oil just needs to be warmed up. or the clutch is freezin.

Yea I was thinking maybe the clutch was freezing but after watching my belt smoke for a second I turned the clutch on the compressor by hand to get the oil moving. This worked but it was really hard to do this way. I could hear the oil moving but since the truck wasnt on the oil wasnt warming up. I guess I will try my idea of keeping the belt off for a few minutes and then reinstalling it and see what happens. It's just such a pain in the ass to have to do this every time in the FREEZIN' COLD! Why couldnt they just have made it oilless or the Serpentine type like on other models.

maybe try a lighter weight oil?
