He's on the right track, here are a few pointers to check out:
1.)Check that your wheels are all torqued. I have had people get work done at other shops and come in complaining about a shimmy a i walk out there and two of their lugnuts a straight up finger tight.
2.)If the shimmy is at a particular speed then it is usually a balance issue. If it is a shimmy all the time, sometimes it is a bent wheel, movement in a tire, or something else like you threw some weights. See a GOOD (and I can't emphasize enough) tire shop.
3.)Alignments don't cause a shimmy, they cause a pull. But they never hurt to have done when you take the car in anyways.
