The Direction of Photoshop Forum

I respect KEG and all the other render co. and their awesome work but seeing banners and seeing visit our site for a quote on every thread has really in my mind taken away from what this whole photoshop forum stands for....

When i fist signed up on this site over a year ago, it wasnt even remotly as bad... it was just amatures helping amatures. Now that some of us are actually experienced at this (im not one of them) we can actually make a business out of it. Thats great but for anyone who has been a member for awhile and was a common poster on this forum knows that with all these render companies out now, it has caused a big mess. Thats why its no longer listed on the homepage and made it where you cant advertise this or that unless you pay.

I personally lost intrest in the whole rendering thing because stuff like this didnt make it fun anymore. To constantly see hate thread after hate thread and a rendering companies add on every thread just ruined it for me. i remember back when people asked for a simple render, some of us actually did it. Now the majority of it is "stop by our site for a quote". In no way do i intend for this to be a hate thread and those who reply to it better not turn it in to that.
I know for sure KEG, GD, and some others out there are paving the way for high quality products but I guess all im saying is im tired of being reminded of it every thread I read....

Hey, all them guys are still around that did the freebies, and we've been around charging this whole time too. and we've always charged. It's just the fact that the guys taht used to do the freebies got a lil too big headed and started wanting to charge 30 bucks here or there for a bunk rendering or a cheezy website... hence ^^^^.... And that's not even the reason it got taken off the main page either, it got taken away a long time ago cause of all the fighting and bitching that was goin on. ya, it's died down now but honestly there ain't much gettin posted in here anymore. only thing i see anymore is a few requests and from time to time a new rendering. So i wouldn't be bashing the threads too much other then the fact that they've slow'd down a lot from the past. but what can you do?

to add a little to dougy there are still people that do some free renderings "me" because i feel that i am not good enough and can't do enough to charge but there are some companies out there that charge too much it should always be you get what you pay for and some companies you get less than what you pay for that is the growing problem people need to know their limits

i used to do some freebies. but i feel that i'm way better than a year ago (when i started) and that i can definitely hang w/ anybody elses work. i'm not going to any freebies anymore more bc a good professional rendering takes a lot of time and thought.

...like i've said in the past: for the amount of time and work put into these renderings...75 to 125 bux is still not enough, but there's nothing we can do bc this price has been the industry standard for the past 2-3 years.

as far as the bickering and dis'n in the forum, it has died down a lot. just chk out the 'renderings' thread. ppl just posted their work and that was that.

well i myself have been on ssm since it was started over 5 years ago. i was under another name but i was here. i was also one of the first rendering companies to come about. KEG and GD started this digital rendering biz in our industry and alot of people think they can do the same. its not easy thou. you have no life if you have a biz like this. i put in 14 hours every single day and seldom leave my house for 2 to 3 weeks at at time. this is how i pay my bills and how my business grows. when someone steps up like they are gonna start a new biz its my job to make sure people see my work. i pay to be able to advertise on the forum and before that i paid to be able to advertise on this site. im actually the only graphic design business to ever pay to actually advertise on this site in the banners that im aware of. im sorry you dont like it but its business and that's just how it operates.

i understand ya a hundred percent and the only reason i charge is so i can do this. i chage so that i can quit my job to do what i love. to give you an idea, i charge maybe $150 for something i will spend 3 or 4 days on, only to make it perfect to the very last point. i give my time and effort plus %100 more for people and thats something free i give away everyday. you shouldnt give up on something you enjoy because other people ruin it. go after it and have fun. ill be here to root you on.

wont see me doin any freebies.. maybe a biz card or a logo every now and then, but a full rendering.. up to todays standard.. wich is usually 2 views.. intricate background.. and a flawless rendering.. the 6-8 hours it takes from start to finish isnt worth not making money imo.. not sayin my shit dont stink.. cuz ive got alot to learn.. but i agree with kyle... but hey business is business... and where you can advertise to your peers... why not take the advantage?................. and... do what you love.. the money will eventually follow
