620 P/U Ignition

On my dual point ignition, there is a capasitor[?] that grounds on the fender with the pos going to the coil pos. What purpose does this serve ? Anybody know ? Removing it has no effect that I've noticed. It's not something added by a previous owner because I've seen it on other 620s.
