I was just curious, is everyone running a custom driveshaft, or just re yoked stock ones? any other things you guys have done, id like to know, thanks.
i had to take mine to a drive shaft shop and had one custom made. i took them the stock mazda shaft and the factory shaft that came with the motor and tranny that i bought. the size of the mazda shaft is metric and the chevy shaft is standard they had to put shims tube in between the two shafts and weld them all together. only costed me about 125 dollars and it works perfect. if you plan to do the same you need to find out how you need to mesure what you need for a shaft all shops mesure a little differnet. any more questions just hit me back.
for my ranger i got lucky and just changed the yolk on the tranny end and had the stock shaft shortened 1".. but what everyone else has said is true.. contact a local driveshaft shop and ask them how they go about measuring the length. each place does measure differently.. im sure you can just get the driveshaft from the donor motor modified to fit in.. are you using the donor rear end as well?? if so you should be able to just get the shaft shortened
Almost ALL engine swaps except a very select few mazda engines will require a custom driveshaft to be made since the new yoke needed will be different from the mazda and the required length will change. If possable get a one piece driveshaft made and put a safety loop on it, they are more efficient. If you have an extended cab or long bed you might be forced to have it two piece depending on what your swapping in.
