Sometimes I smell gas inside to cab of my mazda. It is bodydropped and the air filter does stick out of the hood. Would this have anything to do with it.

Just light a match, and run it along your fuel line. When it catches fire, VIOLA'! You have found your fuel leak!

If you ditched the charcoal canister and plugged the line, you are forcing gas fumes out the vented cap.

Make sure you didnt cut a line doing the bd.

Mazda gas tanks rust along the seam in the center, giving you a gas smell. It gets bad enough that you wont be able to run over half tank or all the gas will just weep out through the rust.
