Ive got an 88 4 banger with a silly painted gauge cluster. When I was at the boneyard yesterday getting the goodies to put a heater back in my truck, I scored a tilt column and a tach cluster.

Does anyone know off hand what it takes to swap the ignition key from my non tilt to my tilt column, or do i need to have a locksmith do this?

On the back of the tach cluster, there are three wires that arent prewired for on my truck, all in one connector. Im assuming these are the tach connection. Ive got a solid white, solid black, and black with a white line. any ideas on where i hook these up at?

Any help would be appreciated.

O ya, and i forgot to mention, the tach cluster came out of the same year truck, but its a 2.8.

I know on toyota you have to put a resistor inline to or something to make it work right. Is that the same on dimes?

to take the ignition out, you have to pull your steering wheel off, and theres a plate in there i think, take the plate off too, and all your turn signal crap, then after thats all out, i think there is a few bolts that hold it in, ive never done it, just watched someone do it once, check your chiltons

I dont have the chiltons yet, and since i'm selling the truck to a buddy when i get done tinkering on it, i probly wont buy one. Thanks for the heads up.

I was hoping more for a magical quick and easy answer, but once again it appears the answer is elbow grease.

its not that bad to pull the igntion u just need a spring plate compresser to do it pretty staight forward for some one who is mechanicaily inclined

Would anyone in the Oregon area happen to have said spring plate compressor.

And for reference, the v6 tach dash physically fits just fine in my 4 banger, but my high beam light is now my Service Engine light, and my right turn signal is now my high beam light. So out it came. So if anyone in the area is interested in the v6 tach cluster let me know.

your local auto parts store should rent them.....or i think the cheap ones are like 20 bucks. i use mine alot being a locksmith and all, so cheap ones dont last for me, but for what your doing it will do fine....
