i have a black '96 civic coupe that i want painted like a nice glossy white, maybe even jus Championship white. i have a few dents and dings, but i wanna get the door jams, under the hood, and the trunk jam all painted white. and i want like a stock look. what would be a good way to go about this? like what brands would ya'll recommend and what materials would i need? a friend is gonna do the job, but i'mma help him as much as i can. and what prep work all needs to be done so i know what to expect when i go over.

is this a pro shop gonna paint it or back yard type??brands (me personally) i go with Auto Air Colors, its a waterbased automotive paint AutoAirColors.comprep if dients and dings ain't to bad use a evercoat filler,or go and have them professional pulled out, take it down with about 320(if you want to go bare metal go with 36,primer,80 grit, primer builder,200-320,primer sealer, basecoat "champ white" in lite coats 4-6,800-1800dry/wet sand, clear, buff, wax)same steps if not wanting to take it down to bare metal just start with 320 grit and go from there.Materials,HVLP gun,air compressor.OH and tape up the stuff not wanting to be painted, odvisouly windows, wheels, headlights tailights, interior.

thanks, thats a lot of help. it'll be backyard work, but then he'll take it to a shop to do the actual paintjob so there wont be moisture or dust in the air. i'll prolly have one dent professionally pulled out, its on the drivers side rear side panel where the side molding is on the bottom, its a pretty big one like someone kicked it. came out one day and there was jus a huge dent. everything else will either be filled or new parts, like a new hood, new fenders, new trunk. i'm going for a very clean look, no body kit, nothing shaved except the antenna, no z3 fenders or none of that, but i will have a carbon fiber trunk deck lid and carbon fiber hood. with my 18's i've got ordered and when i get my suspension put in, it'll have a nice look to it. plus i've got a honey comb front upper grille with ion headlights, so i think it'll look good. with a pearl paintjob, lets say like a caddilac w/that yellow shimmer to it, how much extra would something like that be? cause i know its not jus in the paint. and i've heard a good paintjob is 90% prep and 10% skill, so i know i need to sand this fucker down and get it straight as hell and keep it clean of all dirt before its painted. and getting everything taped off is gonna be a bitch, at least i think so, when it comes to the door jams.

yeah keep ever step clean, use a cleaning solvent after ever sanding step, you can get by with rubbing alchol, just take your time and have patience,... ... ...auto air doesn't release any hazard vapors also,it doesn't have any VOC's. its water based, real easy to clean up(equipment),real easy to apply,no special curing times, use a heat gun or heat lamps, and its dry,
