i am trying to get my wifes crx running, its a 90 automatic with a 1.5, it starts and then dies right away, and just turns over after that and floods unless you leave it for a couple days. i tried the main relay(swapped it with the one from my civic) and that is working fine.i can hold it in my hand and hear both relays click on and off, and the fuel pump run. it has spark and fuel i even tried starting fluid. my next try is the alternator, i heard that once it starts it relies on the alternator to get power to the distributor. also it has an aftermarket cruise control setup, could that be doing something? i tried unplugging the wires for it but it made no difference. it sat for a couple years with the head off of it and i recently put it back together. it ran when i parked it just had 2 burned valves which i replaced. also i just took the timing belt off to be sure it was in time. any ideas?

Check the dizzy,You're coil might be fried.

Check timing make sure it's spot on.

Make sure their is fresh gas in it,Not shitty 2 year old stale gas .

change the plugs/wires/cap/rotor/fuel filter.

i agree with him... definetly get some good gas in that bitch... 2year old fuel is junk haha.. and it really sounds like a timming problem to me! especially since you had the head off and stuff... get it all timed up right and that should help...

I would also check all of the vacum lines. If those things are cracked or removed it wont run.

redid the timing, new fuel filter, new gas, and had the alternator tested. still nothing. think the plugs are maybe sparking when out but not firing under pressure from being fouled? they look okay and spark bright, but are wet when i get them out

Try new plugs...just swap them from your Civic rather than buying new ones since I don't think that is the problem. When a plug is fouled its the carbon buildup on the insulator that shorts the plug and won't let a spark jump the gap. I am going to say check the plug wires and make sure they are on right i.e. make sure that the #1 wire goes to the #1 spot on the distributor cap. If neither of those do it have you tried giving it gas/opening the throttle right one it starts up? Try to rev it up a bit as soon as it starts and if you can, hold it there for a while. If none of those work then it may be a sensor like you IAT (intake air temperature) or TPS (throttle position sensor). Depending on the year Civic you may be able to swap these momentarily just to see if its the problem. Let me know how it goes.

Oh, and I'm not a tuner. My ECU does that for me.

it fires right up for like 3 seconds and dies no matter what, giving it gas dosen't help. and after that nothing for days. the plugs are new but i think i swamped them. the civic has a zc so i am not sure they are the same. thanks for the help. im gonna look into the ecu, and see if theres any codes.
