My wife has several spots on her front bumper where the clear is starting to flake off and peel and such. To redo this, do I have to reprime the bumper or can i just sand the bumper and repaint and then reclear. . .what grit to scuff it up good 180?

i would use 320 on a da to feather out the spots and then 800 the whole the bummper

i would just repaint the whole thing because its probably an adhesion problem and it may occur after laying new clear down

Especially with late 80s to mid 90s GMs. Guy at school has a 92 GMC fullsize 2 tone from the factory and all the paint is peelin from the hood and roof

theres a company who makes a prduct called scuff-it, it removes clear coat. then you can just re-apply new clear. that is if your bumpers paint is still good. it comes in a orange bottle with a black lid looks like an upside down ketchup bottle, could try that we use it at work, and it works like a charm

thanks guys. . . well it's a 2002 and the bumper and stuff was repainted about 3 years ago. . .but i think it was shotty work. I just wasn't sure if it would be ok to just sand it a repaint and clear or if i needed to reprime and everything.

I planned on repainting the entire bumper, the flaking is way beyond just simple touch up
