i just finished painting my truck with a single stage copper metallic.never painted anything so went with single stage, and it came out great. My question is do i buff it afterwards even though its single stage?and do i need to wet sand it as well? and if so what product would anyone recommend for buffing it out and what grit for wet sanding??Thnks for info in advance.

I'd say 1200 then 1500 then buff it, if you have the means, running a 3000 wet/dry disc over it with a nice finishing d/a saves a ton of buff time and flattens it a bit more too. My biggest "hint" is that your not even close to done if you want it really nice. I had about 12-16 hours in wet sanding and buffing my mustang and probably should have spent more time on it.... and that was on a pretty flat finish with few flaws to begin with! It sucks taking the time, but it's an important step fo sho.

with that single stage, you dont have much you can cut down do you?

yea cris, there isnt much to buff on single stage, you will burn through it fast if not careful.

Yeah if it's a metallic single stage then be VERY careful. If you sand and buff too much you can still move or sand the metallic and the color will change on you. My suggestion to you is just hit it with something like 2500 then use a light compound with a foam cutting pad. Finish up with a glaze with a foam polising pad and you should be good to go. Just be very careful with the single stage though. Hope it turns out nice.

If it's a daily driver and you are already happy with it then I would leave it alone. Especially if you have never wet sanded and buffed anything before. You said it came out great. Just enjoy and drag the shit out of it. If it isn't railing then you aren't finished.

Ive never had a problem treating single stages like base clears. I 1500, 2000, then 2500 and then buff it just like a base clear. To me i does seem to take longer to buff and get all the fine scratches out.

All depends on type of single stage if its single stage urethane u treat it just like base/clear. If its old enamel its gonna be soft so id just buff it. Bset thing to do is hit it with some 600-1000 and clear it IMO

i would take all dirt nibs off with a razor blade, if u never done it before i wouldnt try it for the first time on single stage. then i would prolly wet sand with 2000 and buff.
if u have access to a DA sander i would get some 3M 1500 and sand the nibs with that (u dont have to use water with the 1500), then use 3M 3000 grit trizac for the DA and wet sand it with that and then rub it, using the 3000 will make it so u wont have to take as long and u shouldnt have to worry so much about burning through

well first off you shouldnt paint anything single stage metallic. if you buff it you will take metallic off and it could make the color look weird. any metallic paint should be two stage. but now that you have it your best bet is to leave it alone unless you have huge obvious nibs or something in which case be very careful
