i have a 2002 gmc sierra. when you turn it makes a popping noise on the drivers side...it seems to do it more significantly when you turn and hit a bump at the same time..anyone know what the problem might be?

its the intermediate stearing shaft making that noise, if you pay reall close attention you can feel a bump in teh wheel also.

there is a bulletien that GM will either replace or lube the intermediate steering shaft if its under warranty, or you can go to the delaership and buy the lube kit and do it your self for 14.91 plus tax...( part # 26098419) or get teh shaft for aorund 100( 2 differnt part numbers depending when yours was assembled,or if it had been replaced before)...

hope that helps.

lubing it is definitely the way to go. it works even better if you drill ahole up the center of the shaft

CALL YOUR LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP, IF YOU PAY FOR IT IT SHOULD COST ABOUT $200. LUBING IT WILL ONLY WORK FOR A SHORT TIME. THE "CORRECT" WAY TO FIX IT IS TO GET THE NEWLY DESIGNED SHAFT.

gm has quit send dealers the shaft they say that is not the problem the say to just lube them. We got all our orderes canceled the other day and gm said they will not fill any

there is a new bulletien with a new designed grease in the lube kit... supposed to fix the problem for up to 20k miles... they havent stopped shipment of the shafts, GM just wont pay anymore warranty claims for replacing the shafts.

if yours is out of warranty then you can just go in and buy a new shaft... or if you wanna take the cheap "easy fix" route then buy the lube kit..... like i basically said in my first post.
