so i found a good deal on an 89 toyota, which would be my project and i would turn my fully loaded 90 toyota into my daily. the trucks in over all good shape with barely any rust, but the carbureted engine is sorta scaring me. theres a 146k on it and the guy is willing to trade me str8 up for my beater, a 95 ford tauras. What does everyone think of the carbureted toyota engines do they run as good and are they as relialbe as the fuel enjected?

might have to rebuild the carb or put a webber on it, but other than that you have less computer controled crap A.K.A. less shit to go wrong.

how hard would it be to put a webber carb on it?

Shit I think the carbed ones are alot better.146k aint bad on it it probally needs a new timing chain, but other than that those things are solid.....Id say go for it

carburation shouldnt scare you.. its all in how the truck was maintained before... that truck will go 200,000 + . id trade even up for that any day

Webbers bolt right on using an adaptor plate

I had one of those, an 89 carb'd 4 speed. Had the single DIN dash (most 89-95 had a double DIN opening, the carb'd 4 speeds all had single DIN openings)

It

was

awesome.

Thats the truck I wish I still had, before I got into mazdas. It was bodydropped and bagged and 4 linked (all four bars forward haha) in 97. Reliable, always started. I used to let customers at the store I worked at borrow it while their car was being worked on and they'd all come back raving about how good it ran (it really looked like ass before I fixed it up, pole dent in the front, hail damage, bed rusted). I called it "the Red truck" even after I painted it orange.

Thanks for the memory, I'll find a pic of it and post. It used to be on minitruckinweb in the readers ride section but I see they got rid of that part of the site.

my 86 toy has 252000+ miles and still runs strong with the carb. takes a couple secs to start in the morn. but thats it.
