why do you need a 4" bd? why not just do all your metalwork to make it lay true frame, then you'll only need a 2 1/2 - 2 3/4" depending if you want to lay pinch or rocker & you'll be fine with the stock hood.
to answer your real question you won't be able to use the stock hood w/o cutting it with a 4" bd unless you reworked the hell out of your front clip & motor mounts & section the pan. i guess what i'm really saying is that it IS possible but it's more work than just doing it right.
good luck

There is no right or wrong way and I did it with a 4" and all I did was lower the motor mounts and the trans mounts! there is also no work to do to the fornt clip. That was not much work to do!

What he means is to Z the frame or section the frotn crossmember. And also build a tranny crossmember that does not hang below the frame. I had to push my tranny up about 1/2" so that it didn't hang below the frame. Didn't drop the motor, but I'm going to drop it 1/4" to keep it away from the hood. And by doing that, you could make your frame do this. All that work = less body drop/stock hood. I'm only going to be body dropping my truck 1 3/4" and that will set me on the rockers. I couldn't afford much more headroom anyways, so I did it right.

or you could do what i did on mine... cut your frame in half under the cab area, insert 2x2 .250 box tubing, weld the cut frame to it like a hot dog bun, and then put your cab back on... wow a stock cab laying rocker. then lower your motor mounts and call it a day. loook at my profile

it sounds like you took offence to what i said, & i wasn't bashing in any way. i was talking about the same thing as seth was. i only meant that a 4" traditional is rather extreme & there's a much easier way, but best of luck in whatever you choose to do.

i was going to do a huge drop also, but ifigure the best way is to z 1 inch and then ill only have to body drop the cab/bed 2.5 inch to the rocker. im hoping to keep the stock hood? i also got a tranny crossmember(not sure what company made it), although it doesnt seem liek it will go frame rail to frame rail. i think i will have to lengthen it a lil on each side.

Sory for being on the ofensive but usualy I get ignorent people! Ya but I already did my 4" bd and I'm prety sure the hood will fit I lowered the engine and trany mounts an 1" And have had the motor in and out of there all week. But for a futur plan I may Z notch and lay almost doored. Depending on how much I need to Z. Then I will section the pan a bit! How big of a Z do u normaly have to do? Also I think I saw someone do something to the front crossmember to lay frame no Z How do I do this?

Here are the pictures of what I did to lay flat with no Z.Cut everything off and moved it up an inch. And heres the sectioned pan.

hope this helps, and good luck bro.
