I have an RCI fuel cell, does the float that comes with the fuel cell work with the stock fuel gauge? If so do you just connect the stock two wires, which one goes where?

Thanx

I had a custom one made that uses the stock sending unit check out my profile for some pics

Who made yours Mike? I want to get one that accepts the stock sending unit. I was in touch with someone that knew where to get it but lost his number.

usually fuel cells come with GM senders, which work opposite of Mazda. A GM sender is 0-90 ohms, which means it is 0 when empty and 90 when full. A Mazda is 100-0, which means 100 when empty and 0 when full. (most senders wont read actual "zero", which elctrically would be an open circuit, but will read very close to zero).

So if you hooked up the one in the cell (and it is indeed a GM) it would read backwards, meaning empty when full and full when empty. An older ford sender was very close to the Mazda, it read empty around 80 and full around 10 if I recall correctly, which would read the correct direction on the stock mazda guage.

a local guy made it for me and when I went to pic it up he offered me a job it lasted about 2 months. I learned alot about metal work in that short 2 months. find a local welding and fab shop and give them the dimensions and a templete of the sending unit and they should be able to make it for you for a resonable price. O yeah RUSS you the MAN.

Ok, so anyone who has put a stock mazda float into either a custom fuel cell or an aftermarket one like mine does the the dimentions of the tank effect how accurate the float is (ie the depth and width of the tank?)

you can make the stock sender work with any tank depth by extending or shortening the rod the float is on. So that the float bottoms out at the same spot and tops out at the same spot as the stock tank depth. Then you have no worries
no regrets . wa   +1y
i have made steel cells with stock hardware the work sweet no messing with mitch match sending units
