I have a 98 ranger with the god forbid 2.5 in it. I know NOTHING about fuel systems, pumps or anything like that. I do know my truck has a return-less fuel system that was only around for 3 years tops before they discontinued this specific motor. I've not yet found a fuel pump thats listed as RETURNLESS compatible. Does one exist? If not, is there anyway to make a standard external aftermarket pump work? I only have 11" of space in my bed and my stock internal pump assembly is close to 13" high, i'd like everything as clean as possibly and to ultimately go with a spun aluminum gtank.

Anybody went with an aftermarket pump on a Ranger (98-00) w/ 2.5? If so, which did you use.

Thanks

Nick

i thought the pump just sent fuel to the motor not back any where else

there is a return, its just on the fuel filter, and it goes to the carbon can i think.i know the fuel filter on my 02 has 2 lines goin to it.

my filter only has one in and one out thats all but then theres like 3 hoses on my tank and a vent hose that goes to my filler neck i still havent figured out how to do a fuel cell

My 2000 is return.

because you have a 4.0, i said the 2.5 is returnless, it was a ford experiment gone bad. hence why they went back with a different 2.3 with return lines

Just call the tech lines for the companies that make the pumps your interested in and see if they will work with the voltage shit you were talking about. Can't be the first time someones needed an efi pump for this kinda set-up. You might try some hot rod sites and ask guys that put new motors in old cars. My mustang has no return, but i like my carb so it's not a huge issue. Made tuning the nitrous a little tricky, but not too bad.

i know its possible cuz there is a new mustang mag out were they put 3 pumps on a returnless cobra.

my 98 4.0L has no return. look into getting a pump from another motor dude. just check the pressure ratings on em. i know my entire assembly is not close to 13" in height. more like the 11 you need. it's in a 10" high cell with a 1/4" spacer. reg cabs and ext cabs I was told had different shaped tanks and different sending units. maybe try looking into some part numbers on a ford specific site and see if there are any differences. you may be able to use a stock unit just not the one you have.
