So my trucks been sitting in my garage after reso. Ive started it and let it run a couple times and all that good junk. The whole time during the bodydrop and firewall nothing ever leaked. Now my pinion seal has a small leak that i noticed last night. (shitty)

How hard are these to fix or should i just get a new rearend? I want to drive this thing soon but i cant with it leaking like that. Thanks in advance guys!

Pinion seal is not hard to change out. Seal will run about $10 and should take about an hour to change out. Put alignment marks on the the shaft BEFORE you remove it. Remove drive shaft. Loosen nut that holds the flange. Remove the flange and you will be staring right at the pinion seal. Pull out the old and use a large socket to put in the new.

Umm, in most cases the pinion yoke most be pressed apart from the pinion gear.

thanks but that wasnt very much help..

anyone got experience with a TOYOTA rear pinion seal?

Ive never taken a rearend apart so i dont know if i need specialty tools or what to do the job. I dont want to get this thing apart and find out i need some special tool that costs 300 dollars or some shit like that.

Nothing special needed. Its fairly straight foward. Worst case, go get yourself a Hanyes manual on your truck along with the seal and oil and you'll be about $30 in the hole.

I talked to a place here in town that does gears...they will do it for a 100 bucks with a warranty. Plus they are gonna check my axle seals and wheel cylinders for the same price. so it looks like im probably gonna go that route!

Thanks for the help everyone!
