Will a Ford 9inch Rear end fit underneath the ass in of a mazda? Or will it need to be modified?

It needs to be narrowed about 7-8 inches im doing one right now.

different 9" axels are different lengths

the axle i got out of a '73 bronco is about the right size. the axle out of a fullsize is going to be too long.

this is just like asking the question "will 18 inch rims tuck?"

well, some will and some won't

the narrowest 9" would probably be the one that came in the Maverick or Granada. I would think they are still too narrow.

but there is an easy solution,
if you find one thats almost as narrow as you need you can shorten only one side.

by that I mean, most Ford 9" rearends have 2 different length axles, get another short axle and shorten one side of the housing and go from there.

axles for the 9" are cheap anyway, even new ones. cheap to get shortened as well and theres plenty out there in the wrecking yards.

It think I have read somewhere that you can get the rear from a mustang and have disc brakes. I am in the process of trying to find a rear now.

a 9 inch might be a tight squeeze, but i know some 8 inch fords are pretty narrow. they would be a better bet to fit ur truck, check for some out of old grenadas and mavericks to get some measurements off of

dude
Why dont you go with a toyota 8" rear.
This is what i did or used, in y truck and i race it with a 13B constantly.

1988-1995 Toyota 2WD v6.
it is the 4pinion rear heavy duty 31 spline axles and any 4or6cyl pumkin or center section fit in it. from 3.90-5.88 gears avalable
it comes with drum brakes and 5x4.5 bolt pattern so you can install rx7, 300zx or mustang wheels. and it is 2 inches shorter that a B2200 stock rear.

I installed rx7 86-91 rear disks and calipers with a home made aluminum bracket.. Looks runs great. best part you can get this stuff at your local junk yard or i may have this stuff lying around.
Ford is heavy and will take many mods to make it go. I will post some links to the pics soon.
