ok i got an 87 yota right, this is my problem.the temp is like all screwed up,a little while ago the truck was always cold,i live in orlando fl and i took it to tampa(bout 1hr 30m trip)i looked at the temp is was heating up,on the high way but wen i started to get into residential areas since i had to slow down the temp went down also.a couple months later the timing chain expanded and made a whole in the timing cover mixing water and oil, fixed that no problem.now the temp gets a little bit above the cold symbol.i wanna actually drive my truck further i just been stayin local with it cuz im afraid it will overheat,if someone can help me out i would really apreciate it,thanx

sounds like one of the wires to your temp sending on the block is bad or has a short in it. May want to try a new thermostat too. Years of heat make the wires brittle and they have a tendency to break. I have had to replace all wiring under the hood.
