not charging?

92 chev fullsize 4.3....new battery and new alternator....it runs for a few minutes then dies....what can the prob? is it wiring? friend bought the truck and it seems to have butchered wiring..where are the wires supposed to go from the alt? what else culd it be? we jump start it then after running its drained....PLEASE help!!!! thanks

put a meter on its wiel its running, is it a one wire or two wire alt.

its a 2 wire...but not sure if its wired right b.c the previous owner cut the wiring up

While it is running stick a piece a metal on the backside of the alt. if it sticks magnetically it is charging if not...well it isnt charging.

just get a test light or a multi meter and test the wires to the regulator(the 1 or 2 wire plug on the back of the alt, not the stud). If its a 2 wire, there should be 12 volts on both wires when the key is on. If its a 1 wire plug then there should be 12 volts when the key is on. If that's ok, try wigling the plug, may be a bad conection
