step number 1... get a NICE camera... don't settle for some $100 POS camera... I bought a Sony DSC-N1 for just under $500... nice touch screen, adjustable shutter speed, and it takes videos... 8 megapixels... here's some examples...

Oh yeah... Step number 2... have a really big or multiple memory cards for the camera (i carry 2 1/2 gigs of sticks with me at all times)
and step 3... take pictures... learn how to use the settingsa on the camera, and just take pictures... you will get alot of junk pictures, but you will get some really good ones too... as for what to take pictures of... just anything... just go somewhere... there is something to take a picture of there... just be creative on the angles and effects you use...
