Any help from anyone.. law enforcement ...??

ok heres the deal, 2 weeks ago i was in a hit and run, i got the plate #, vehicle descriptoin right down to the trim color and wheel size (its ocd i know) and got the local cops to "look in to it", well 2 weeks later and all thats come back is a 93 GMC, that is not even close to what hit me. now my question is can i find out any information my self (online, or through the BMV) or wait until these cops do someting about it. any help would be greatly apprecheated, i cant afford to even buy a new fendre (only got 200 from ins. and fender is 240 shipped) i just want my car fixed. thank you in advance and sorry for the book

did the police give you the name of the detective/investigator that is working your accident? if you can get in touch with him and tell him exactly what hit you...also if the plate came back to another vehicle it could be stolen, so then you have some real problems.

i know the officer working on it, ive called him everyday since it happened and he "is still looking into it" its been a month now and the best he can say is "we need to wait till the 6th to check new regristrations" their being no help, and the supervisor he has, told me it wasnt his case, what kinda shit is that. thank you
