Have rebuilt the 2.2 in the Maz completely and still blown the head gasket again. I am seriously considering an engine swap using the bullet proof 2300 Ford ranger motor. Has anyone done this swap? I've heard that it will bolt up to the Mazda tranny so I wouldn't have to change any thing from there back. This motor has about as many performance mods as any small block chevy. Plus it doesn't have an aluminum head to warp, it's cast iron. Any info and help appreciated.

those heads are bad about cracking. the dizzy gears are bad about breaking, the timin belt tensioners are crappy. i could go on. there really good motors not sure bout the mazda tranny(2.2) but 87 up were mazda trannys(made by mazda).

it has been done, there is a kid in FL that dropped a turbo coupe motor in his mazda. He had a video up, it was bad ass.
