I am not quite sure as to how I would remove the dash stereo in my Ford Escort Zx2. It is a '98 model. There are two holes on either side of the piece. I have heard talk of special Ford Keys to use to remove the stereo but I am not sure where I could get those and I was thinking about taking wire hangers and just cutting them into 'U' shapes. Would that work?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes u need the din tools ( special radio removal keys). Your local stereo shop should have a set or a set to sell. aqlso the temp. cable will need to be disconnected to get the radio cluster out. That cable is on the srivers side. release the clip on top to release the cable. Once you get the radio cluster out there will be some other harnesses to disconnect for ac and heat controls as well as the radio itself. If you need anymore info hit me up.

Alright. I do have the dash kit and I've already laid out a diagram of what wires go where for the head unit. Although connecting the wires for the AC controls and rear defroster will be a bit tricky. I haven't actually got the dash stereo out yet so I do not know what that looks like in there...

i would use a grinder or sawzall

you will also have to notvh the upperleft corner where the kit goes into the dash to get it to fit correctly

I've purchased the din tools and plan on lookin g back there to see what it looks like here tomorrow. Now do I have to disconnect the heater/temp cable or can I just disconnect the negative on my battery? I am wondering if I'm disconnecting that because of power issues? There is not a wire long enough on the new kit to reach back below the drivers side so I guess I don't know why I'd have to disconnect it to get the cluster out?

cause it is hooked to the heater control via a cable not wire but a cable. You dont want to disconnect that one at the bezel because it will make the adjustment off
