Newb from Dallas Tx area. Been lurking weekly since last year when I traded my 74 shorty for a CC.
My plan was to leave it alone as I already had a frame off going on a 64 short fleet patina style truck. But I can't leave anything alone.... I started w/some simple exterior clean-up stuff & ordered in a bunch of new interior parts (not yet installed: new/OE dash, door trim, dash trim, & got some burb buckets w/a console).
Then, about a month ago the 454 bit down on the crank. Since I can't leave this stuff untouched it's now got a fresh .030 over rebuild on the OE block w/some flat-tops for a little more compression, RV/towing cam, Edel TBI intake & some 1 3/4" x 3" headers. I'm currently building a new trans mount to keep the exhaust (3" stainless steel) tucked within the frame & will get the drivetrain installed one of these weekends.
While waiting on the motor, I rebuilt the front end & did some extra tweaks. Some Western Chassis 3" spindles & a 1.5" notched x-member (from a previous build) were installed. It also got some Bilstein shocks & Energy Suspensions poly sway-bar bushings. I had planned to do a flip kit thinking I could tweak things for a 6-7" drop but I'm leaning toward the RideTech HD 4-bar style set-up now.
No big rollers for this ride. I found some stock style alum 5-star looking wheels w/some 'old-school' hub caps. They're OE Chevy/dually caps but not sure what year models they came on (remind me of old school poverty/dog-dish caps). I already swapped the front tires for some slightly shorter (and inner wheel well friendly) 235-75-16's; the rears will remain w/the 235-85's. The 'new' old stuff will get swapped once the ride height is dialed in & I can get it down for alignment.
I'll add pics as progress continues. Nice place you guys got here & I hope to contribute!
