As most of you know, our son Jaykob was born with an illness called Meconium Aspiration Syndrome. He spent 33 days in the NICU, 5 of those days were on a bypass machine called ECMO, and 12 of those days were spent on a ventilator. Jaykob`s first week was spent in a hospital about two hours from us, because our hospital did not have the ECMO machine. This meant that I (his mother) could not see him for the first 4 days of his life. When they left with Jaykob, I was so terrified that I would never get to see him again. With proper funding, it may be possible to get one of these machines at our hospital so another mother does not have to miss these precious days with her child. The money raised through WalkAmerica not only helps premature babies but also helps babies in Jaykob`s situation. Your donations could help with the technology and research to keep babies like Jaykob and his little neighbors that were in the NICU with him alive.
