Just brought the B2000 home and its making some obnoxious noise I think its the fuel filter (Mounted on the passenger inner fender??) But Im not sure.. I dont have a pic right now but Im hopin a mazda guy can help me.. It has lines running to the fuel filter also sitting on the inner fender This clicking sound... does it mean I need a new pump? Or is this not a pump at all??

you are probably hearing the mazda tick, the HLA's (lifters) making noise till the oil pressure pumps them up.

you can drain a quart of oil out (or if its like most mazdas just wait for a quart to leak out, should take about a week) and top it off with ATF. ATF is just really dtergent motor oil, and if you drive around with it in there for a while (couple thousand miles) the internals will get nice and clean. If the HLA's are ticking because the oil hole is plugged, this will clean them out.

Another method is to run a can of seafoam (overfill the engine slightly) for about an hour at idle and then drain and change the oil/filter. After 1000 miles change it again. If it fixes your HLA's the effect will be instantaneous. But be careful, Seafoam dratically thins the oil and you will spin a bearing QUICK if you try to drive around or rev the engine. Kerosene works the same as seafoam. This works so well at cleaning gunk that even the next time I changed the oil a BLOOP of crud came out of the oil drain.

I like the ATF method because it doesnt thin the oil or dislodge big chunks that could potentially plug oil passages. But I have used the kerosene trick too and it is satisfying to fix it in an afternoon instead of over a couple thousand miles...

If this does not fix the tick, you need to replace the HLA's. Its not that hard, mazdatruckin.com has a tech on it.

oh, and a warning. If you have oil sludge holding gaskets together on the outside of your motor, either way I described above will turn your engine into a fairly efficient oil strainer, your small external leaks will become very very large.

I had a pump come loose on me once on the highway. It was a very bar experience ant the truck stoped running (of cource). Any ways I think your problem is not the pump bu t I would still check to make sure those two bolts are tight.

It looks like someone added an electric fuel pump... Its on my inner wheel well.. And it runs to my filter...
