brought a 1990 ford ranger, when it goes into overdrive it cuts out bad. somebody / mechanic said it wasn't the fuel filter, cause if it was it would do it in drive instead of when it goes into overdrive.Anybody know what the heck is wrong?before i start to sink money into it in all the wrong places.

sounds like its probably that litle blue oval in your grille causeing the problem.lol. but it very well could be your fuel filter. that would be what i would check first. start small on trouble shooting and work your way up. but that would be my first part.

check fuel psi. and trans fluid psi if you have the tools. are you sure the motor is cutting out or is the trans. slipping

if trans was slipping, rpms would surge from lack of the clutch packs engaging. if it only does it in overdrive, then sounds like you have some fault some were in the OD. also, the fuel filter is usually NEVER at fault unless you just have never changed it. it would starve the motor even at idle in park if it was that bad. are there any check engine lights?
