ok my friend has an 2003 silverado. his truck keeps going into reduced engine power and we don't know why. every place he has taken it to just blames it on his bags and sends him on his way. what do you suppose the real reason his truck is doing this?

Rims are to big. Reduce wheel size.

I have no idea. You saay reduced engine power like its a mode? Did you put a chip in it or get it programmed at all? Something may be up there...

we just put 20's on my brothers girls car and its a LOT slower at accelerating it seems, but what do u expect adding all that weight? It could be something wrong with the motor, did he upgrade alternators to high output? That will pull horses away from you.

whats up man? mine does that too. everytime i reprogram it it tells me at the end that i reduced my engine power. i thought by spending $400.00 bucks i was gonna get better hp & torque, but it seems to take off slower. i understand it all but when i get to shift point i.e(+1-6mph/-1-6mph)i have nooo... idea what the hell that means.

I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe that is still in its factory condition. It is giving me the same status indicator. The engine will start but will not throtle. All it will do is idle. If I put it in gear it will not do anything. After a few minutes with the keys out of the ignition and restarting it everything is fine like nothing happened.

it has to do with the "drive by wire system" that operates the throttle body. Check the wires that go from the accelerator pedal out through the big harness through the firewall on the drivers side. If one of those wires is damaged it will cause this problem. Dont ask me how I know.

OK there are several things that can cause the PCM to do this. The PCM(Power Train Control Module) monitors various inputs and will issue a reduced torque signal if it sees any input that is believes could cause an engine failure. It is not the bags, unless the wiring for them has been tapped into one of these inputs. But there could also be a chaffed wire or harness. If you can get it to some one that can read the codes (it is OBD2) then get me the code I can lead you in a direction. Hope this helps.

Ok I will check the wires/harness and see if anything is obvious. That is possible considering that this vehicle survived Hurricane Katrina on Keesler AFB.Thanks for the prompt responses.
