I would use a 2wd Tacoma rack

either that or a aero star. the tie rods go in teh spindle nicely. also the tierods will have ot be shortened, but u can pick up some factory ps hoses for it since aerostars had the same p/s pumps as all rangers did.

if you use a tacoma rack yo uwill either need to flip your spindles to run the suspension as a rear steer setup, or have the imput of the rack on the passenger side of the truck. plus the track width of a tacoma is a couple inches wider than an 80s toyota. im using the aerostar rack on a ranger, and it seems like it will fit nicely with the ranger trackwidth.

one thing i forgot to mention im building the complete setup, so i making all the control arm angles and pivot points, installing a rack onto the older toyota suspension might create alot of bumpsteer if the pivot points arent aligned correctly. you will have the tie rods traveling in a different arc than the arms, steering the wheels when the truck goes up and down.

thanks for the posts has anyone used a pontiac fiero rack and pinion, if so how did you do it

umm no, an aerostar/ranger/explorer rack will work the best since there almost the same trackwidth and powersteering hoses will bolt right on. nuther option would be a manual MII rack.

Why not just use the stock toyota steering and adapt the gearbox to work with the ford steering column?
