what kind of c notch is it, if its 2x4 box tubing, all you have to do is use a plate notch. The plate notch would go around the 2 x 4 notch. you just trim the bottom out after you get the sides and top welded in. Or back half it with 2x4. Theres all kinds of back half pictures on here. Just cruise around and take a gander at em.

I had a 7" 2x3 notch on mine, and went to a 10" 8piece. I just welded it in like a regular 8piece. Once I got the side plates and top plate on, I cut out the inside of the old notch. I also did the same on a 6" 8piece. Went from a 6" 8piece to an 8" 8piece.

re notching really isnt that big of a task. just take your time to make i look nice and neat when your done. ive replaced a plated notch with the same style but made it shorter. the person who installed it originally didnt even let the notch reach the bottom of the frame. so the only parts that had structure were the outside and the top. the inside of the frame was open so it never got welded up. but what i did was cut the inside of the notch off so it was an open c. just like the frame. that way the notch wont be wide from stacking the plate nothches on top of each other. then i put in the new inside piece where i wanted it and welded it in. then did the same to the outside but i kept the original plate there for added stregth. afte that i welded up the bottom plate since i was makign the notch shorter. then cut the old top off. after that i welded the old remains of the notch to the new one from the inside. yet again for stregth. after that i welded on the top and was finished. it takes about the same time to renotch or to install a notch on a stock frame.
