I am welding my axle tabs on this week and a buddy of mine (Who's a machinist) said to be careful not to warp the axle housing. Has anybody ever warped an axle housing. I wasn't even worried about that. Should I be. I didn't think you could warp an axle housing. Can you?

It's a fullsize as well. The axle is pretty thick, and like you said round. I don't see it happening. Just wanted to see what you guys thought.

Man,
You CAN warp the axle tube, which in turn will cause the axle to rub the tube its incased in. Just weld it slowly in short beads and use just enough heat to penetrate the metal. It is possible, just don't get crazy with the welder and things should be fine.

yea its possible but just do what he said above

it takes ALOT of heat to warp an axle, alot of racecar guys use heat to change axle housings camber and toe, but usually you'll have to get an area like 4" wide red hot to change the tube just a degree or 2 off.

You can definately warp an axle welding all your 4-link tabs and shock mounts onto it if you do not allow sufficient cooling down periods between the various tabs.

It will not cause your axle shaft to rub the tube, thats the dumbest shit I've ever heard. BUT what it will do it throw your inner and outer bearings out of alignment and you'll wonder why you're chewing up bearings and seals every 5k miles.
