either you are out of fluid in the clutch master cylinder, the clutch master is bad, or the clutch slave cylinder is bad.

Even if you are out of fluid, it could still be either of the others. Easy fix for either, like a 12 minute job, and not too expensive. Usually its the slave gets a hole in the piston boot. Passenger side of trans, real low. Follow the hydraulic line.

my exprience is when you repace the slave, the master goes out within the next week. I just probably just have bad luck though.

Had the same problem with my 91 ranger. Turned out to be the pilot bearing/bushing.

Yea if the pilot bearing is that far shot it will hang up instead of spinning freely which won't allow the input shaft to completly slow down to shift easily.

This problem could also be worn out synchronizer hub forks which is common for trucks this old. To help prevent this many drivers need to stop resting their hand on the shifter when driving, not slamming it into gear helps as well.
