My girlfriend has a 1998 Toyota Tacoma and the key wont turn. She called Toyota and they said that the Triad system has problems and that they would just remove it, so her stepdad tried to do it himself (not sure why, but he did). I am wondering how you remove/disable it?

I think it may just be the Ignition Switch, so I may replace that and hope it works, but since I dont know what her stepdad did to the Triad I need to know how to take that out...

She needs this fixed asap, so if you could reply today (?) that would help

Thanks!

move the steering wheel and then turn, the steering wheel lock will make the key not turn. also if that is not the problem and you need to remove the key cylinder, remove the plastic trim under the column, i think it's like 4 10mm bolts and a screw, and on the underside of the ignition tumbler you will see a hole, normally you turn the key to acc. and stick a screw driver in that hole, which pushes a pin in and you just pull out the whole tumbler, but in your case your going to drill out that pin. once you drill it out which will take a while because that pin is made of some hard a$$ material and isn't supposed to be drilled, the whole tumbler will slide right out and your new one will slide right on in.

hope this helps. Chad
