would the hobart 125 EZ welder be a good welder? it cost $300 @ a local hardware store. i want to buy a welder but i don't want to waste $300 if it isn't that great or doesn't last very long. any other suggestions would be appreciated.
what are you going to be welding? we have a huge lincoln in our fab shop but i wanted something for my house for sheetmetal and moderate fab/frame work so i got a miller 175. depends on what you want to weld though. i would at least go with a 220 machine. and a miller or lincoln brand though.
i need to get a miller 135 for sheetmetal, my 210 is waaaaay over kill. it got anoying when i was bd'in my bed, kept burnin through. millermatic 251, thats a fuckin bad ass welder
ive got a miller 175 and i love it! and the 251 at work, both kickass welders. but for home stuff if your mostly doing bodymetal and some frame work... the 175 is a better bet. Unless you do majority frame work in your garage.. get the 251 then.
Without knowing what his use is I would recommend a Miller 175 for all around use. Has enough amperage to penetrate 1/4 with .035 wire and you can always swap your liner/wire/tip to .024 for sheetmetal.
as much as i love the miller welder the hobart in my opinion is just as good. thats what i learned on and i found that it was easier to use then the miller. It produced a faster weld at lower voltage and wire speed, plus there cheaper. i guess you should just try to use one and see what fits you better
