I'm in the same boat. Mine was in the shop for a year and a half and it seemed like every time i tried to start it (about once every 1-2 weeks) it would take forever to start. Now i have a new battery and alternator, and sometimes it starts fine, and sometimes it will turn over but not run. There seems to be no pattern to how it works, one time i ran the battery down trying to start it, the next day i jumped it and it started right away. The next time it happened, i just quit trying after 3 starts, let it sit, then started it the next day and it started right away. The last time, i ran the battery down again, put a battery charger on it for 10 hours, tried again, still would'nt start, so i let it sit overnight, tried it the next morning, and it started right away. I'm thinking maybe a fuel pump wire is loose somewhere, but i'm stumped. Any ideas? I have a 99 s10 4.3 5 speed.

mine always just clicks, it doesnt turn over, its just clicks and it will always eventually start, sometimes first turn of the key, sometimes 25 turns of the key, but when i turn the key, it just clicks. we all need help with this and we obviously cant trust mechanics, anyone out there, let us know wats wrong with our trucks.

i think if it clicks it's the starter (if i remember right). Does it do one click or a rapid series of clicks?

could be the starter, could be a bad connection going to the starter. you should also check the engine ground. if it not grounded properly it could act like a short. make sure your getting 12 volts from the battery to the starter. check the ignition wire to the starter, make sure its getting 12 volts when the key is in the on position
