i have a 97' 2 door tahoe. on the rear doors, they have these god awful hinges that stick out like 3 feet, i can usually come up with my own ideas on how to make things work, but these little bastard got me stumped. any ideas wound be appreciated.

suicide hinges inside .... but it would take hella bracing. either live with it or swap it over for a t/g\hatch style

This is Bill's (EKSTENSIVE METAL WORKS)2 door hoe that was at Heatwave in 2004 its the only one I have ever seen done. I have tried to find some rear pics but I can't. I have to say if you don't know what your looking for you will look right over it. Its bad ass.

i called him the other day to ask about it, but he was gone or something. i have to go to houston this week, i will probably go by there and ask him.

Yeah I have the same issue on my SUB Im going to shave the ass end with a full skin combo and a flip glass from a Tahoe. I was thinking about using some hinges off of a new body tahoe but it will just be easier to shave the ass end on it. Plus you wont have a 12 inch pillar in the middle of your rear view mirror.

how hard is it gonna be to put the flip glass in it? is it gonna be a pain in the ass to get it to seal up tight?

I dont think it will be that hard at all. I was looking at my friends Tahoe the other night, you really just need to look at one to see how easy it actually will be. On your door jambs you will have to remove the brackets that hold the hinges, they are just spotwelded onto the body, then you will have to get the brackets that mount the tailgate latches and spotweld them into place, for the flip glass you just need the brackets that hold the hinges and get really good measurements and weld those in place. I believe the glass has the gasket so as long as you get the brackets as close to the factory places it should seal fine.

me and my buddy james where talking earlier throwing around some ideas, and we came up with a pretty good one i thought. what if we were to weld the tailgate shut, and still have the top part with the windows swing open and closed like they do now. it would probably be pretty hard, but i think it would look pretty damn cool. i haven't seen anybody else do it either, although there may be a reason for that. what do you think?

like the dutch doors on a astro/safari have the tailgate bttom and the door glass.... would be cool and you could probably get the bracketry/look at an astrovan and figure out how to do it..... now less talk and more work get to it and post pics.
