are you just re-doing the stock headliner, or doing new cloth?? either way clean the plastic part and use alot of adheasive, and basically from the center out smooth it, pushing the adheasive and any bubbles to the edge.
then just wrap it around the edges giving enough cloth to hold. thats how i did it in my S-10, i think there might be a more detailed thing out there but thatsa basic over view...hopefully helped a little

The old headliner material will need to be removed if it is coming loose. Most headliners are foam backed cloth and the foam begins to break down allowing the headliner material to sag. If it is not foam backed and appears to be well attached it is possible to cover over it but the results may not be as clean. You will need to remove the headliner board from the vehicle to do a quality job. If you have the material removed, be sure to use a soft brush to clean the board with. Cut your replacement material a couple of inches wider than the board and lay this material on the board. Flip the material half way back where it is exposing half of the board. At this time use a quality hi-temp spray adhesive and apply an even coat to both the exposed board and the back side of the material you flipped back. Give each side a couple seconds to "tack-up" and slowly work from the center (where the material is folded) out to the edge by slowly but firmly using your hand to smooth the material out to the edges. It will help if you use one hand to hold the material up to prevent it from adhering to a place you have not gotten to as you smooth it out. Repeat for other side. If the headliner was folded over the sides carefully glue this also after finishing the face of the board, then trim edges. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Good luck and take your time..........
