Just installed a set of HID headlights on a 02 subaru wrx, when i wire them should the hid be hooked to the standard leight or the brights, also i have a daytime running lights, when i set the e-brake the lights go out, normal, when you release the brake, the right or left HID comes on, one or the other, not both, i have them hooked to the lowbeams right now, and the halogen bulb used for brights, i guess, isnt very bright. anyone got any ideas, i realize im in the wrong forum, but no one is using the subaru forum, HID is HID.

DRL provide a lower voltage to the headlights than when the headlights are turned on, so you'll need to disconnect the DRL circuit. There isnt enough voltage present to turn the HID ballasts on consistently.

HID is hooked to lowbeam. Unless you bought Bi-Xenon with a high and low beam setting, or have spereate high beam bulbs, you are SOL for high beam lighting. Welcome to HID retrofit. You should have bought the "kit" that comes with new housings, because H4 housings were not made for the light pattern of HID bulbs.

So lets recap:

you lost DRL
you lost high beams
you likely have less light (more glare, dont confuse that with more light)
Cops LOVE to ticket for HID retrofits because of the excessive glare, at least here they do. Save yourself some ticket money and get the right kit, you DRL will still work, so will your high beams. It may seem more expensive NOW, but cheap is as cheap does.

ok, so in my case for now, can i just run the HID on my highbeams and the halogens on the lows, for now, thus allowing the DRL to work, not to worried about a ticket, i drive to work 30 miles, long dark road.

Temp solution till i can upgrade, its what i wanted in the first place.

I have a set of oem HID headlamps off a 04 WRX, the housings are cracked, but the ballasts, bulbs and shit are still in the housings.

If you have seperate bulbs for high and low beams, you shouldnt have a problem, just find out which bulb the DRL's are on and use the HID on the other. Usually DRL's are on the high beam, for glare, and run at lower volatge. Thats why DRL's are so annoying, looks like someone driving around with their high beams on.

My point, since you ask so nicely, was I was going to offer them to you if you wanted them. They do me no good just sitting here.

I was actually going to offer them for free, like I said, I have no use for them.
