Just sold my 85 chevy single cab long bed because my family is growing and picked up an 88 3+3. Ive been looking through alot of builds on here and cant wait to start on mine. I love the look of the square bodies and they always get alot of attention. Still unsure if im going to keep it a 2wd dually and bag it or convert it to 4wd SRW short bed.

Can some one explain to me some terms ive seen in some of the threads on here im pretty new to this stuff. What does it mean to z the frame and what are the benefits. Also what is a pie cut when referring to front control arms?
Im looking to get my truck as low as i can without modifying the bed to much. I have a camper that i would like to still be able to put in the bed of the truck.

Welcome to the site, z'ing is cutting the frame off at the firewall and raising the front section to all the side long rails to lay flat on the ground. The front crossmember hangs lower on some trucks so to get it lower you must raise it up. Its a little more complicated than that but that is the short version. Pie cutting the arms is to change the ball joint angle so it doesnt bind when fully layed out. You only need to do both if you plan on laying frame. You will also need to notch the frame in the rear to allow the axle to come up higher which will require notching the bed floor so the axle doesnt hit the floor. You would have to modify your camper to clear as well but would be bad ass to have a layed out dually with a camper in the bed. Not sure it has been done before.

thank you for clearing that up for me. How does z'ing the frame affect the frames integrity. If its done correctly is it just as strong if not stronger than than the factory frame? Id like to be able to haul and tow a decent amount of weight still and have concerns with cutting the frame like that. I know in the rear with the notch it actually makes the frame much stronger than factory.

If done right it can be stronger in the front and back.
