well, if it smells like gas, then it is definately getting fuel.
easiest thing to do first is to check for vacuum leaks. check every single vacuum line in that contraption of a carb the mazda has. also check and see if the choke is somehow stuck. take your air cleaner off and look at the choke plate. see if it is staying closed after a couple of minutes. if you want to disengage it, remove the power to the choke solenoid. there is a wire with a green harness somewhere under the intake manifold side that goes from the alternator to the choke.
if you've replaced what you said you have, and have installed everything correctly. all 4 cylinders have strong spark and the timing is correct, the only thing you have left is the stock carb.
