I just bought a full skin for my truck and taillight fillers I got it all on and welded up and I also used square tubing for support. now i am ready to do body work. My qustion is has anyone had problems with bodyfiller cracking even with square tubing.

I always said if I was gonna go through the trouble of welding in a skin, the corners would have to be radiused.....almost everytime I see one that dosent have radiused corners, its cracked out...good luck w/ it

take the time to radius the corners you kick your own ass if you dont. i speak from experience.

round off the top corners so that there is no 90 degree intersect to crack out

After you radius the corners, make sure the filler is no thicker than 3/16", preferably 1/8" at most if at all possible, and you wont have any problems.

WELD FROM THE INSIDE.. that way u aren't grinding off u'r weld from the outside.. or, if weldin from the inside is not able, radius the skin on the edges. a pair of pliers, bend the metal on the edge down slightly makin it look like a roll almost, then weld in spots tryin not to overheat the metal, skip around but u want an even, full weld from top to bottom. or try to find a professional body shop to do it. that way when it cracks u can just drive it back up there to them and let them fix it over and over and over

do good metal work and dont lay all the bondo on in one layer and youll be fine. you can use the fiberglass reinforced bondo for the first coat too if you need it
