Now this will get a little complicated..

I have a 92 Ranger XLT 4x4 with a 4.0L engine, and a 91 Ranger XLT 2x4 with a 4.0L for parts. Yesterday night the alternator died in my truck, so I went to pick up the alternator in my 91 to put in my 92, but it dosen't fit.

On my 92, there is 2 big plugs, 1 small plug and a red wire that bolts in the casting of the alternator, and on the 91 there is just 2 big plugs. The guy I bought my 91 from told me that the engine if a 4.0L from a Ford Areostar, but my father-in-law have a 92 Ranger 4x4 with a Areostar engine in it, and it's the same alternator as my 92.

I know that on a Areostar the oil stick is in the front, and on my 91 it's in the rear. And the engine look exactly the same as my 92, except for the alternator.

Can someone help me on that? Is it that the alternators are not the same because my 92 is a 4x4, or is it that my 91 have a 3.0L or something?

Well, a more simple question.. ..does anyone know if Ford used the same 4.0L engine in 91 and 92, or did they changed the design in 92?

1992 alternators

60 Amp E8PZ10346CRM1 $211.22 75 Amp FOPZ10346BRM1 $211.22 80 Amp FOPZ10346ARM1 $211.22 95 Amp F6PZ10346LARM1 $216.98

its possible you have the 95 amp. alt. check your part numbers. what isnt fitting the mounting holes? aero stars have the same alternator part number, just dont have the 60 amp option.
