Yes and no on the killing the engine part. Depends entirely on the set up and tuning. I have seen people run wet and dry systems for a long time with minimal problems. This was with propper fuel added to the mix though.
I have also seen someone blow a stock motor the first time they used a 65 hp dry kit....I think it was a zex kit. They of course didn't upgrade the fuel pump, and he got trigger happy and went for a test run before the pump was swapped. Fuel system couldn't keep up the nitrouse and boom.....toasted d-16.
I would definitely research the decision before slapping anything together.
