Leifs Mazda bodydrop how to needs to be a sticky somewhere..

Okay. Its a 2" body drop. I cut 1.5" strip out of the back of the cab to allow for an Then cut out a 2" strip on the front of the floorboard, and above the tranny tunnel.I ended up building a low profile tranny tunnel to keep the heat. Then cut straight down the side of the floor to connect the front and rear cuts. Then, let it drop. You'll have to cut through some body mount supports. Brace them later on.

Line it back up (I made some referrence marks with a marker) and weld the rear part together, and start making filler panels. Now is also a good time to replace any rust floor panels. Lol.

Hope this helps.

can you re-explain the first picture? for an---

"for an overlap" is what I am sure he meant. You cut the strip out less than the body drop so the panels overlap. This is easier than taking out exactly 2 inches and having to butt weld the panel together. Its also stronnger when finished.

Good how too seth. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, you explained most of the body drop in a few pictures.

Thanks Russ.

And yes, I meant "For an overlap" I transfered that from a write up I did on another forum and had to change the picture codes. I probably cut it out there.

Man, Leif haven't seen you in a while. Hows your Dog, lol? That is a great how-to. Thats the first/only one i had in its entirety when i did my first one. Oh the memories... lol, good luck bro, go cut that shit!!!

yea, i remember doin my first one, all i had was a sawsall and a cut off wheel. that shit sucked. IMO the worst part of cutting would be the bodymounts. its even a pain with a plasma cutter. when i do mine, i always keep the stock heater, and radio console thingy. i dont cut all the way along the firewall, i end up cuttin on the bottom of the tranny tunnel, and bringing that cut back a lil past your shifter, that way when you drop the cab your tunnel drops too. i did it on my second mazda, i bd'd it 2.5 inches and the tunnel didnt hit the tranny. oh and on the back wall, to make it easier to weld back together, i overlapped it a half inch like russ and seth said, but to keep it tight, i went on ebay and ordered some cleco pins and pliers, it made it a lot easier
